Facebook Questions: What you need to know as a business

Facebook is in the process of rolling out a major update to a feature called Questions. If you have a business page on Facebook (you should), you’ll want to pay attention. As the name implies, Questions allows you to ask multiple choice questions. And, because it’s built-in to Facebook, it allows people to share and collaborate around the questions like never before.

Perhaps you’re considering a new product or service. Wouldn’t it be nice if you could quickly ask your audience what they thought? Or, perhaps you want to know what people think on a certain topic. Now you can ask them.

Here’s what it looks like (click here to see it in action):

The beauty of Questions is that it’s inherently social (and viral). Let’s say that you have a business page on Facebook (you should). When you ask a question, all of the people that “like” your business page see it. Then, if they answer the question, their friends see that they answered it. Then, if their friends-of-friends answer it, all of their friends see it. It’s viral. As you can imagine, this offers some great possibilities for you to reach an audience far beyond your page fans; all while collecting valuable feedback along the way.

Activating Questions

Facebook is still rolling out Questions to the masses. But, just like a high school outing to an amusement park, you can cut in line and activate it manually.

  1. Visit Facebook and click “Account” at the top right
  2. Click “Use Facebook as Page” and select your business page (if you don’t have a business page, you can still activate it under your normal Facebook account)
  3. Visit http://www.facebook.com/questions/ and click the green button
  4. Go back to Facebook and create your first question (you’ll see a new option where you enter status updates)

The bottom line

Facebook Questions offers a ton of potential for businesses. Think about it. You can ask targeted questions and gain valuable insight with a few clicks. And, since Facebook is social (viral) in nature, it’s a great way to expose others to your company in a valuable, non-intrusive way. Win win.

Give it a try and let me know what you think in the comments below.

Happy asking!
